GPA, short for grade point average, is a vital factor that universities consider when evaluating a student’s academic performance. However, it’s important to keep in mind that each institution has its unique scale for calculating GPA. Therefore, a 9.8 CGPA at one university may not necessarily equate to a 9.8 CGPA at another university. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of converting your GPA to ensure that you present an accurate and impressive representation of your academic achievements.

Depending on the university you are applying to, you may have to convert or not convert your grades.
No Conversion

Some universities may ask directly about the scale of your GPA. If your university uses a scale of 10 and you have a CGPA of 7.5, you can enter 7.5 as your CGPA.

If the university asks for a 4-scale GPA, you will need to convert your CGPA to a 4-scale. Here are some methods for this conversion.

i) WES Evaluation

World Education Services (WES) is an organization that evaluates profiles and converts GPA to a 4-point scale. This process is chargeable, so if your university requires a WES evaluation, you will need to pay for it.

ii) Specific Calculators

If your university provided a specific website for conversion, you can use that website to convert your 10-point scale GPA to a 4-point scale GPA. However, keep in mind that this conversion may only be accurate on certain websites, so it’s best to take an average by considering two or three different websites.

iii) Transcript Evaluation

If you have time, you can check for transcript evaluation on the back of your certificate. This may provide some information on how your GPA can be converted to a 4-scale.

iv) WES iGPA Calculator:

If you have more time, you can use the WES iGPA calculator to calculate your CGPA. First, fill in all of your basic details as required. Next, fill in the minimum marks/pass percentage of your university. Then, fill in all marks of each subject separately as per your CMM. After submitting your marks, your required CGPA will be displayed.

It’s important to note that each university may have different requirements for calculating and converting GPA, so it’s always best to double-check with your university before submitting your application. And there you have it, a simple guide on how to calculate and convert your GPA for university applications. Thank you for reading, and best of luck with your applications!
